Grabolo in the house

Grabolo on the floor

Another game loved by my daughters is Grabolo. I cannot say that playing with it goes without a fight, but it is a game where speed, concentration and memory has to be used, so a young four-year-old has some disadvantages.

And if she can’t take it lightly, it can cause troubles.

And if it can, it will. Trust me, I know.

How to play

This is a kind of easy game to play, there are some circles with different animals on it in different coloured backgrounds. Players have two dices, one for the colours and one for the animals.

When someone throws the dice, the fastest player has to find the circle on the floor/table/etc. that matches the one indicated by the dices. And here are the problems when you have an older girl who wants to win, who wants to beat the younger one, and a younger one, who cannot really loose… 🙂

This game hardly ever ends with a great laugh – but sooner or later they will learn how to play together without fighting and simply enjoy the game itself. These things happen from time to time but very rarely. Very-very rarely.

But we work on it, all of us.

The Clean Sheet Champions

signs on a wall

So, I have recently bumped into a picture about Manchester United being in the lead among the big six regarding cleans sheets in 2017. I can’t find it now, but I know that I saw it in a ManUtd news app on my phone, a really not-that-good app that I will delete because of too many adverts for example.

Anyway that is a good achievement, isn’t it?

Well, not quite. Continue reading

LÜK is one of the best

I love playing a little bit with the girls and it is especially good when they are in the mood. That does not happen often, unfortunately.

This was the situation today, also, as she was getting ready to play something with her mother – or at least she had planned to, but I intervened. It took something like 10 minutes to convince her to swap her mum to me, but I succeeded somehow. Continue reading

Restart, medium-term plans and other things

OK, I haven’t posted for ages, I know, and I have no excuses at all. Except for the last three weeks or so, because three weeks ago I started to work at a new place, so it has been a bit busy nowadays.

But now it is time to write again, so I am planning to post more often with more topics.

This one is the first and it is about our medium-term plans. We are selling our house and want to move into the city (Budapest). Our daughters are just getting older and older, Lucas is almost nine, Pannus is more than four – and their company and friends are mostly in the city so we have to orient ourselves somewhere there.

Luca is a very interested girl she wants to try lots of different sports and activities – another reason to be closer. And if we live in the city then we don’t have to wait for each other, Luca can go to her special after-school lessons with my wife and I can take Pannus home, so job done.

So, the short-term plan is to sell the house and find a flat to rent, so the special lessons and sleep-overs and Pannus’ friends would be sorted.

Now, the medium-term is a bit more complicated. It seem like we need to find a new school for Luca, which is a bit of a problem, but that’ll be a different post. On the family front we are trying to move abroad – it seem like the situation in Hungary will not be changed and there is no other way.

I am planning to use this new job as an opportunity for that. I give myself something around two years or a bit more to work here, to learn a lot of things here, so that we can move abroad. It is a international environment here, the company is a German one, but the internationally used language is the English. The next day I am going to meet the Irish ambassador here in Hungary about a project. Gonna be fun!

I started to refresh my French knowledge. I have lessons with a friend of mine every Thursday evening, I use two different applications to practice every day, and I really do spend 30 minutes with it every day. I bought a box of Pons word cards, too.

And I am using my LinkedIn premium subscription too, to learn about education, digitalisation, learning management system etc.

Seems like quite a journey to me!

Cobb Barbecue Cooking System – on the way home

So, I’m very excited because I have just ordered one of these beauties.

And this was one of my quickest decisions in my life about a cooking tool.

I happened to visit a Hungarian website, from where I almost bought a smoker which can be used for grilling and barbecuing too – but this time I found a new tool, the SAfire Cooker. That is a portable cooker for grilling and barbecuing meat and other stuff.

A little bit expensive, though, but I found one cheaper on eBay, but then I found another one, the Cobb Premier, and that seems a bit even better then the SAfire.

And as I had some money hidden on PayPal, I decided to buy that. It is said to be a very good cooker, very useful for beginners like me, so I thought that I would use it for practising. And now I’m sitting here excited and waiting 7-10 day to have the box delivered.

Two possible teams for the match vs Crystal Palace

So, I pick two set of players for tonight’s game. The first one is without baring in mind the FA Cup match at the Wembley in a couple of days. No resting, no rotation, the best set of players available.

And the next one is with those important on Saturday rested with some players given playing time.

Still, it is a must win game, especially now that the neighbors lost two points at Newcastle!

Journey to Belgium – 1st cheese

So, I spent a couple of days in Brussels, I had a workshop there – and obviously, I brought a couple of thing home. The package included waffles, chocolates, macarons, mustards, hams, and cheeses.

And the first cheese turns out to be French originally. Anyway, my wife wasn’t that happy as most of the cheeses are those smelly ones, so I am told to finish them off as soon as I can. And I’m on it, ’cause I have to admit, when I open the fridge, you can feel it, really, and you can feel that immediately in the other end of the flat, too.

But so it goes – I have to get used to seeing my two-year-old with nose plugged.

Rouy in the box
The first cheese from the trip

So, it is a smelly one, but I like them very much and this is nowhere near to the worst ones. Once I bought something I opened at my office in the kitchen – my colleagues spent the whole day with open windows on the whole corridor. And I mean it!

And anyway, one of my friends says that you don’t smell it when you eat it, so problem solved.

And if you taste it, you will love it. It is not the richest of flavors but still, gives you the idea of eating something proper. This not the best of the cheeses, not even the front row, but a decent one. Soft but can be sliced and cut with a sharp knife, and the slices are really nice on a good slice of bread.

As you can find on the internet it is made from the cow’s milk, and Rouy is the name of the family company that produces it. They originally lived in Dijon, France, but now I think they are acquired by a subsidiary of Lactalys Besnier.

Anyway, don’t be afraid to try, you won’t be disappointed though one can be sure to be able to find something better.
