When I realized that I wanted to write a blog in English I soon found out that I need another one. This one is about chillies and cooking (it all started with the chillies, yeah) – and I have another hobby (or obsession, rather) football (soccer?) and Manchester United, and that calls for another blog.
For half a year it’s been working well, I managed to post here and there (almost) evenly, once a week on either side. But as I have a blog in Hungarian, too, and with our second daughter growing and demanding more and more attention, so there’s a lot to do, well, suddenly I had no time and I just saw that there are no fresh things – nor here, neither there.
So it’s gonna be the Cooking basics for Dummies. Only the beginning. I think I am a bit more by now than a beginner on my home ground in the kitchen, but to write a blog about it’s kind of an away match to Real Madrid – you need definitely different skills and tools.
Well, I lived in London for one and a half year, and my English was almost perfect then, but it was ten twelve years ago and I forgot a lot. I still read a lot in English, books, websites, magazines, newspapers, etc., but when I have to express myself it’s getting harder.
Especially when it’s in a kind of really specific topic – say cooking, for example, where you need really the perfect words when you describe something and when you try to understand something, either.
I downloaded a sample of the book to my e-book reader and it seems like it can help me to learn the essentials of cooking, really, the basics. Ingredients, tools, different types of jars, pots, different methods, so that if I write that sauteing that would mean sauteing, and if I read somewhere that I need to use a pot, I”ll be able to choose the perfect one from my cupboard.
As I have a bit of experience, I think I’ll be rather quick with this first book, and then I can easily find another one, with a bit wider range. With the basic vocabulary from this book hopefully it will much easier to write this blog…
So, a couple of months ago I decided to publish this blog about chilies, gastronomy, restaurants, etc. And by now I realized that if I want to carry on (and I do want to) I need to recharge my vocabulary and need to learn a lot about gastronomy, kitchen and all the things related. One thing is to read blogs, magazines on this topic but I want to do something more, as well, in order to speed up the process of learning.
So, now I’m looking for a book which I can use for this. I need to learn from the basics, all the terms and methods of gastronomy. I’m ready to order anything suggested or advised to use – well, under a reasonable budget. If you have a good and useful one, please leave a comment! I welcome any ideas.
Anyway, the budget is necessary because now I’m responsible for one more person – ’cause we are expecting a baby around August. We have a lot of things to do until he or she arrives, we want to sell our flat and move to a house in Budapest, closer to our daughter’s kindergarten and to our office. Again, we need to furnish a new baby room, with all the things like a pram, a baby carrier, there’s the chili growing and the products, blogs and so, seems like it’s gonna be a rather hectic and colorful year…
But, with the baby and the Super Bowl of the Ravens, I can only say, the year kicked off well!
